FOUNDED BY LOCAL AUTHOR, POET, & CREATIVE

RHAME

In our name, RARE stands for Remarkable, Authentic, Resilient, and Empowered.

These words reflect the stories and the authors of books I experienced in my youth. I felt a sense of urgency, thinking these are the stories and the voices that need to heard… or shall I say read.

Books by black authors about family, love, coming of age, black traditions, poetry, triumph, epiphany; there’s many worlds unseen within the covers of our minds. All of our worlds and intersections deserve to be represented. There are books where we can find pieces of ourselves, places that show us who we were, are, and who we could be in the future.

It used to be illegal for us to read in this country. Why is that? Because black readership is powerful. Black authorship is powerful. Sharing knowledge amongst our community is powerful. Passing down the stories of our lives is powerful. Passing down the memories of our ancestors is powerful.

Black and brown stories have been overlooked by mainstream media. It’s our mission to put a spotlight on black authors and provide resources for readers & increased readership.

We also beleive in transparency. Your support allows RARE Press to move into a physical home to provide you with community events, as well as a safe space for expression.

Love & Light,

Rhame
